Since Q4 2024, Microsoft has been migrating Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android, Teams Panels, Teams Phones, and Teams Displays from their current Device Administrator-based management to Android Open Source Project (AOSP) device management in Intune. This change aims to improve reliability, simplify deployment, and enhance security across Teams-certified Android devices.
If your organization relies on Microsoft Teams for hybrid collaboration, here’s what this transition means and how to ensure a smooth migration.
Important Update: If AOSP prerequisites are not completed before the May 15th, 2025 update cycle, Android-based Teams devices will begin signing out automaticallyand may not be able to sign in after receiving their firmware updates. These updates cannot be paused and will follow the update phase set in Teams Admin Center:
Validation: 0–15 days General: 16–45 days (default) Final: 45–60 days
Managing Teams Android devices through AOSP will streamline IT operations, reduce friction in enrollment, and provide a more unified approach to device security and updates. Microsoft’s move away from traditional Android Enterprise (AE) management ensures:
• Better Device Reliability – AOSP management aligns with Microsoft’s broader approach to managing dedicated Teams devices.
• Consistent Experience Across Devices – A more seamless management experience across Teams Android hardware.
For IT admins, this means preparing now to avoid service disruptions when the transition begins. UnifiedCommunications can help you evaluate your current Teams devices, implement AOSP enrollment, and recommend fully supported solutions. Avoid unnecessary downtime by letting our experts guide your transition strategy.

Some Teams-certified Android devices will successfully migrate, while others are reaching end of life and will not transition.
To ensure a smooth migration, all AOSP device management prerequisites must be completed for your organization. Devices that have not been properly prepared may automatically sign out during the update process.
The following Microsoft Teams-certified Android devices will be supported under AOSP device management:

Next Step: Not Sure Where You Stand? Review your device fleet now and start preparing. Skipping this step may result in sign-in issues, missing updates, or unsupported devices. Talk to an Expert to get a quick readiness review.
Legacy Devices That Will NOT Migrate
Some previously supported Teams Android devices have reached end of life and will not transition to AOSP. If you still use any of these legacy devices, now is the time to consider upgrading. If your organization still relies on these legacy devices, now is the time to explore upgrade options to ensure continued support, security, and performance.
Don’t Risk Downtime!
UnifiedCommunications can help you identify the best replacement devices, ensure a smooth migration, and future-proof your Teams environment.

Alert: These devices will not receive future updates or AOSP support. If they are still active in your environment, now is the time to plan for their replacement to maintain security and compatibility. Several previously supported Teams Android devices have officially reached end of life (EOL) and are excluded from the AOSP migration. These devices will not receive future updates and may pose security and functionality risks if left in use.
How to Identify an EOL Device:
Not listed in Microsoft’s AOSP compatibility documentation
To avoid disruptions, IT teams should start preparing now:
Set Up AOSP Device Enrollment Profiles – Ensure a smooth transition when Microsoft begins the migration.
Update Device Firmware – Keep devices on the latest firmware version for compatibility.
Begin Beta Testing – If the update is available for your devices, start testing now.
Review Microsoft’s Migration Documentation – Check out the latest Microsoft guidelines to plan the transition.
What Happens to Legacy Devices?
NNon-migrating devices will remain on Android Device Administrator but will be considered unsupported. They may still function but:
May lose functionality at any time
Will not receive security patches or Teams updates
Admins can unenroll these devices from Intune and sign them back in without an Intune license to extend basic use. See Microsoft’s updated guidance on Android device administrator enrollment.
What Will Change After Migration?
For migrating devices, end users won’t notice any visual changes. However, IT admins will see two new applications installed in the Teams Admin Center (Software Health tab):
• Authenticator App • Microsoft Intune App
These replace the previous “Company Portal” application.
Before
After
Look for the phone/room/device in Intune. Ensure it shows AOSP, Corporate Managed.
Next Steps: Ensure Your Devices Stay Supported
If your organization still uses legacy Teams devices that won’t migrate, now is the time to upgrade. Unsupported devices can create security risks, compatibility issues, and disruptions in collaboration.
